In the academic year 2022/23, Cathrin Mayer holds a Visiting Professorship of Curatorial Practice in the Department of Art History and Theory at the University of Art and Design in Linz. The focus of this visiting professorship is on mediation, on the multiple mechanisms that shape the field of contemporary art.

How can one navigate through today's plethora of exhibition formats such as international, temporary large-scale exhibitions (biennials, Documenta), exhibitions in large museums and art halls, shows in smaller art associations and off-spaces? What motivates curators to show certain artists or to deal with certain themes in their exhibitions? How do art critics form their opinions about exhibitions and artistic positions today? Has sustainable work and diversity inclusion already arrived in the art world?
These questions and aspects will be addressed through practice-oriented work such as joint visits to exhibitions and studios, excursions, text work, project work and exchange with other actors in the field of contemporary art.
